Nutritional support for Gestational Diabetes

My doctor wants me to consult a nutritionist to help me to manage my gestational diabetes. To be very honest, I am finding all the fuss hard to deal with and wonder if it is really necessary to consult one more person and have to tell the story one more time. It’s so annoying! Couldn’t I just work hard at managing my sugar myself?

Your feelings are perfectly normal – one minute you are perfectly healthy, and the next you are both pregnant and diabetic. It’s a tough pill to swallow. However, these should both be temporary situations, and you need to ensure that you do not later regret anything you do now. Rather grit your teeth and follow your doctor’s instructions, than look back later and wish that you had done so.

You may be well educated in nutrition, but there are always things to learn. Also, some extra support during this time of upheaval is well worth the trouble. There will be times when you are unsure about a situation, and then you will realise that the support is invaluable.
