Maternity Benefits UIF

If my boss is not going to pay my salary, then how am I going to manage financially while I am on maternity leave?

The UIF contributions that you have been making from your salary will now entitle you to maternity benefits which will extend for 17 weeks. However, you need to be very organized, as the forms have to be submitted three months before the baby is born (eight weeks before you begin your maternity leave).

If you have a miscarriage after you are six months pregnant, or if your baby is stillborn, then you will still be entitled to claim maternity benefits for six weeks. You are entitled to this leave even if your miscarriage occurred before you started your maternity leave.

The fact that you have claimed maternity benefits will not affect your unemployment benefits, should you need to claim them at any stage.
