Induction after waters break

My waters broke yesterday and now my doctor is talking about inducing me. I feel fine and can feel the baby moving. What is the fuss about?

The problem is that the baby is protected from infection by the amniotic fluid and is at risk now that your waters have broken. Most doctors will induce labour if it does not start after the waters have broken. The time frame varies between doctors, but few will allow you to wait longer than a day.

In the meantime there are some precautions that you should consider. The vaginal area should be kept as clean as possible, and you should wear a sanitary towel to mop up leaks that are still occurring while protecting the area. It’s probably the last thing on your mind but no sex at the moment.
