  Birthing Plan - Reason :

Can help me understand the reason for doing a Birthing Plan?

There are several reasons why a birthing plan is a good idea. It gives you the opportunity to really think about what is important to you during the birth process. People are so different and everyone has a unique outlook on life, so it is a way for you to share your views and aspirations with the people who can help the experience match up to your expectations of the birth. These are primarily the doctor and the midwife. Remind yourself that they witness many births every single day and can not know what you require unless you tell them.

It is very important that you also take the time to discuss your feelings with the doctor well in advance of the birth itself. He may have strong objections to some of your ideas, and you need to be able to come to an understanding long before the onset of labour. You need to have as few things to worry about as possible, since it is known that stress does affect the progress of the labour. Your birth companions and doula should also know the contents of the birthing plan. It is a good idea to pack several copies into your hospital bag so that memories can be refreshed once the day arrives!
