My baby has never used a dummy, but since I weaned him, he
wants to suck one. I really don’t want to have a dummy
problem. Should I refuse to let him have it?
In all likelihood this situation is temporary and your
baby is just wanting a bit of extra comfort. It is not unusual
for babies to suck a dummy for a few weeks or months after
weaning, and then to lose interest. It is better to pay
as little attention as possible to the dummy sucking and
see if it diminishes on its own. The fact that your baby
is feeling a bit insecure underlines the fact that this
is not a good time for a battle of wits. Be patient and
see what transpires.
