 Twelve months – Normal behaviour

My baby is not very sociable. I notice at the baby outings that the other babies play games with their mothers, but my baby does not even make eye contact. Should I mention this at the annual checkup, or will she grow out of it?

There are a couple of behaviours that your doctor would like to know about at the first year check up. The fact that your baby does not make eye contact or socialise could be an indicator of a problem and should definitely be mentioned to your doctor.

In addition check these behaviours:
- baby should turn her head towards the sound if you call her
- baby should enjoy playing sound games with you, for example when you mimic the sounds each other make
- baby should be communicating to you with gestures about her needs
- play games such as peek a boo
