Newborn – Colour of eyes :

I was really hoping my baby would have green eyes like my husband, and was surprised to see how blue they turned out to be. My mother-in-law says that the baby’s eyes will change colour, but I find that hard to believe. What is the truth?

Your mother-in-law is correct. It can take up to six months for the real colour of the baby’s eyes to show up. A large number of babies are born with blue or even grey eyes, but very few of them retain that colour. Dark skinned babies are more likely to retain the colour of their eyes at birth, which is generally brown. Interestingly, it can take up to one year for the true depth of colour of your baby’s eyes to emerge. So you might get your green eyes yet!
