Although my baby is only a few weeks old, I am already confused
about so many things. My mom and my friends are always giving
me advice, and now I have the clinic sister on my back too.
How do I know what is right for my baby?
After nine months of pregnancy this situation is probably
not new to you. Remember that during that time you got lots
of advice too. Some of it was really helpful and some of
it was not.
Now that you have a new baby and want to do the right thing
it can be really alarming to get contradictory advice, from
people you respect. So the first thing to keep in mind is
that people are trying to help you and the advice is well
meaning! The second thing is that you do have instincts
and the ability to make the decision about what is right
for your baby and your situation. Whatever you decide to
do, there will be someone who thinks you made the wrong
decision. This really doesn’t matter if you feel that
this is the right course of action for you.
So, try to relax. Listen to the advice and discard what
doesn’t work for you. Do not feel you have to defend
your decisions. You are allowed to shrug your shoulders
and say – that is my decision. It’s your baby.
Follow your instincts.
