My baby is very sleepy and nods off after about five minutes
of feeding. Then she is awake after about 40 minutes and hungry
again. It’s impossible for me to get anything done at
all. Am I doing something wrong?
Because your baby falls asleep so quickly, she is only
getting fore milk. That is why she is hungry again so quickly.
It may seem hard to wake a sleeping baby, but when baby
falls asleep after a short time on the breast you should
gently burp her and then continue to feed on the same side.
You may need to burp and feed three or four times on each
side to ensure that she really has had a good feed, and
then see if she seems more satisfied. If she only asks for
a feed again after several hours then you will have the
solution. You will have to carry on with this method for
a while to ensure that she is getting properly nourished.
