 Breastfeeding – Nipples - Washing :

Should I wash my nipples with soap before feeding to make sure that the baby does not come into contact with germs and to speed up healing of the nipples?

Soap is very drying and should not be used on your nipples especially in these early days of establishing feeding. Rinsing your breasts with water will keep them clean. Breast milk is sterile and there will be no danger to your baby. However the cracked nipples may make you more susceptible to infections in your breasts. Contact your doctor if you have redness, pain or swelling of the breast or if you are feverish.
