  Breastfeeding – After Caesarean :

Will the fact that my baby will be delivered by caesarean affect my chances of breastfeeding?

There is no reason why a caesarean birth should diminish your chances of successfully breastfeeding. Having said this, pain relief medication may make you and your baby dozy, and you may require help and supervision to get going. Ask your health care worker to help you feed your baby at the first possible opportunity. This applies in every situation – feeding as early as possible is helpful in getting the feeding established. If you are on strong pain medication, then ask for someone to stay with you during feeding. All the other rules apply here – in spite of your pain you must try to relax and be as comfortable as possible when feeding.
