  Blinking :

I noticed recently that my baby keeps blinking. Her eyes don’t look red and she isn’t rubbing them or seeming unhappy. What do you think is going on?

In their discovery of the world, babies suddenly discover actions and things that they are in control of. Just as she probably went through a stage of being fascinated by their hands, your baby has just discovered that she can blink. If she closes her eyes and opens them again – will the world still be there? She may also have noticed that you are aware of what she is doing – and is enjoying the attention that she gets!

The signs of a problem are if the baby seems to find light troubling, or does not recognise familiar faces. Keep an eye on this situation, but follow the instinct that you already have. If she is still blinking when you go for your next scheduled check-up, it may be worth mentioning it to your doctor.
